Saw my first Swallows of the year today at Rutland Water plus the Manton Bay Ospreys laid their second egg today. A pair of Goldeneyes topped off a very nice but chilly day.
There's an awful lot of water there at the moment Gness, can't see any of the new dams. But the Water Rails are back at the Waderscrape hide. Could hear them occasionally today but no sightings.
It was a surprise to all of us Boxtops when three Swallows flew past the hide and then returned a few times. Apparently they have also seen Swifts and Sand Martins in the last few days but I didn't see them today
Hi, Milvus. I'm practically glued to the Dyfi webcam, watching our male osprey, Monty, waiting for the return of Nora, his mate. He looks so sad. Nail-biting stuff, but hopefully she'll be back very soon. K
Kleiber, Nora is the sister of 5R, the male Osprey on the Rutland webcam. There are still quite a few Rutland ospreys still to return. Hopefully they will all be starting back now
Yes, I know she came from Rutland. Her niece, Blue 12 appeared on the Dyfi last year - she's another Rutland bird. Apparently, Nora's dad is quite a stud and has sired some strong offspring. Exciting, isn't it? K
