Just commenting today that there are lots and lots of bird activity. I'm sure I don't remember there being quite so much at this time of year: they don't seem to have been away from the garden at all, and oh joy, now we even have a buzzard!!! We put out the turkey carcass and he came and had a good feast. Then we had a good laugh at a couple of wily magpies; one bit the buzzards tail and when he chased it, the other nipped in for a bite to eat. There's the biggest robin I've ever seen, three lady blackbirds, one Mr Blackbird, a thrush, a chaffinch, various crows and jackdaws, a large collection of sparrows and a couple of tiny, tiny blue tits.

My observations too horseshoes. It was a beautiful day today and the birds were busy and noisy. The robin sang his heart out, the great tit was in and out of the bird box, the community of sparrows were as industrious as i've ever seen, and the blackbirds were pottering about on the ground.

My concern is that this is all too early and winter is yet to begin. Do they think its spring already?

Hi Maydup, to be honest, they've been busy like this since before Christmas. I have flowers in my garden that should be long gone too. What I fear, is that perhaps they are nesting and then we'll get a period of snow and ice which might kill them. Let's just hope that the mild weather continues:-)
You're lucky horseshoes, despite all the fatballs, feeders we've got out all we is a couple of scrawny feral pigeons and the odd magpie.Mind you it doesn't help that a sparrow hawk taken to using one of the neighbours TV aerial as a perch.

Ooh Paddy, that will certainly keep the birds away:-( Perhaps he'll find a new perch soon and your friends will return. Fingers crossed!
