Monday. I was absent from parade yesterday. I stayed overnight in Stroud after an excellent RNA social do in Gloucester. I drove over to my friends in Stroud and we were picked up by minibus to go to Gloucester so that some serious quality control could...and was...undertaken. Therefore I stayed in Stroud overnight.

Today a funeral in Staffordshire. A much loved member of the canals trust died suddenly. She will be much missed.

At the moment i have a day to catch up with domesticity tomorrow. Then back to the canal Wednesday.

Morning boaty, my fellow insomniac . Sorry to hear about the death of your friend. xx
Question Author
Morning jan xxx It was very sudden. I'm not sure of the details.
I went to London yesterday to watch the marathon. Great day and I saw the wonderful Mo Farah.
Meeting a friend today at 11 for late brekkie/early lunch but after that I have no plans except for some boring old housework.
Question Author
Obviously I missed the marathon. I usually watch it. Who won? Was it Mo?
No, Kipsang won . Mo came 8th.
Question Author
Thanks for that jan . :o} You have a lovely brunch to look forward to. I just know you will enjoy it. :o}
Mind you boaty, he came 8th out of 36,000 so not too bad considering 26 miles is NOT his distance. He was hoping to break the British record but failed on that score. He was up against a stellar field yesterday and I don't think anyone REALLY thought he would win. He wants to do more marathons so maybe one day, he'll do it.
For me, the best part of the marathon is the "fun runners" dressed as rhinos, or washing machines or there was one man doing karaoke for 26 miles. I think I might have been tempted to deck him though. I HATE karaoke at any time but for 26 miles...? No thank you.
I understand that one 42 year old man died after the event. Don't know details.
They all do it for for such wonderful causes and for me, THEY are the elite runners.
Question Author
I agree with that jan. Mo will do it in time. I didn't expect him to this time. Indeed there are some wonderfully wacky costumes, but, as you say, a lot of money raised for some excellent causes. I never got to do a marathon, but I used to run for fun. :o}
Question Author
I meant to add that yes, they are the real elite runners. The big names get paid far too much to do it. The fundraisers get nothing other than a finishing medal.
There was one man who did the race on prosthetic legs and blades. He did it in a good time too. All VERY inspiring and impressive and very humbling to watch. Next year, we should put in for an AB team and all run together. How many of us would finish it do you think?
Question Author
Good idea, but I wouldn't get far I'm afraid. :o{ I do miss long walks and running.
If there were to be a case of Tullamore Dew at the finishing line for you and a case of Krug for me, then YES YES YES, I'll make sure I finish it !!
Question Author
I'd have to hitch a lift! :o}
Question Author
I could do it on me scooter! :o}
Some of the commentators are useless though. One made the remark " he's right behind the man in front of him". Another said of Mo " well, he's got to run the run and race the race". WHAT?? I thought David Coleman had died but it seems his spirit lives on in others equally inane.
I'd give you a piggy back round the course boaty, never fear.
Question Author
They do come out with some idiotic guff don't they. Also they often go off and rattle on about something that has nothing whatsoever to do with the event they are supposed to be talking about. Why do they have so many anyway. It's the same with the six nations, about twelve all waffling telling us what we've just seen. Why? they only need two.
Time to go now and have my shower. See you tomorrow I hope.
Hello to anyone else dropping in later xx
Question Author
Have a happy day jan. I hope to see you tomorrow. xxxxx :o}
