Lol melv ours have not yet ventured out of the nearby woods. Last year we had up to half a dozen at a time and a magnificent male that made enough row to wake the dead. " She who must be obeyed" would not let me take one for the oven. Bear in mind it is now the close season on pheasants and a big fine can be imposed.

Togo, the pheasant shooting season runs from 1 October to 1 February in Scotland, England and Wales, and 1 October to 31 January in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man

You are right 2sp I got it the wrong way round. I remembered 30th Sept. and put close season into my own head instead of open season. Fill your boots melv.

i had a red-legged partridge walk in through the cat flap once. that was exciting tying to get it out again.

There was one spotted feeding on the flat roof of a building in my city centre. Its body was found some days later. Peregrines don't recognise closed seasons...

Do you ever get a hawk swoop in and take birds from the bird feeder melv. Astonishing sight, I have seen it twice and even though it happens it is hard to comprehend what you have just seen.

Yes, togo. There's a resident pair of sparrow hawks that I see quite often. I site my feeders close to a large shrub, so they can seek refuge when attacked.

When it happens here melv the hawk comes in low between us and next door at about 6ft, just clearing the gate, and it is like a flash. It just hits and is gone, literally in a blink, I just cant help going, what the............?
