Pigeon Deterrents

I have several bird feeders together in the garden and get lots of different birds who visit them. My problem is quite trivial really - there are a few very fat pigeons who are always walking on the ground below the feeders scavenging for dropped seeds. Is there anything i could put on the ground which would deter them, as the ground is flattened and I can't get anything to grow there. I must be careful not to hurt other wildlife and local cats too. I've looked at spikes but think they might be dangerous. Any help appreciated.

Helly, seriously, be grateful to the pigeons. If the pigeons don't clear it up you are likely to get rats who will do the job instead.
Moving your feeders over bushes or established plants could solve your problem of nothing growing underneath.
