Parakeet - Broken beak
4 Answers
Help! I have a parakeet who has broken her beak! She seems to be trying to eat but I don't think she can break open the seeds. I am trying to find a local emergency room that will help her but there doesn't seem to be anyone close by who takes birds. Can someone help?!

If it is broken and you still have the broken piece it can be superglued back on. Don't laugh, it is true. Until you can get to a vet, feed it some canary-type softfood. Worst case scenario.... glue it back on yourself, but it won't be easy.
Hi,same answer as above..............feed soaked eggfood....you can get it at most petshops.........EMP is usually what it is called. However i use pets at home own brand.its lemony and our cockatiels and budgies love it.
She will still be able to drink so get some vitamins for her water aswell.if neccessary.give her the water from a very small syringe/eyedropper.Regards

Maybe if you have an avian vet near by take her there. If the broken piece is missing i know there have been cases where some kind of molding compound has been used to "rebuild" the missing portion of beak. The super gluing the broken piece back on it true to although you might want the vet to do that so it's put back on straight. As for food, i raised a wild baby bird once and when i called the vet to ask what to feed it she said "cat crunchies"(dried food) which i would need to crush and then add warm water to to make a paste of sorts and then feed the bird with a syringe like a mother bird would feed it sticking her beak down the throat. Your bird is older so maybe just syringing it in her mouth would be better. Good luck.
