I have a nesting box on the wall of my tiny garden, I heard a kind of fizzing sound then a bang yesterday evening and by the time I got out into the garden I realised someone had put a firework in the box and killed the baby birds that had been in there. I was so upset, more so when I watched the mother bird return with food for her chicks. I swear to you I could tell she was bewildered. Why ? They could see there were baby birds in there, didnt it bother the person/persons who did it?

It's despicable, it angers and sickens me so much that people could bring themselves to do this, and actually enjoy it. It's so upsetting.

Some years ago when I worked on the probation service, I had a guy working on a community service team who'd been done for cruelty to animals. He'd been given a puppy, & it started chewing the house up. So he took it down to the local lake, tied a brick round it's neck & threw it in. Anyway, the dog got loose so he kicked it to death. He also bragged about taking his 9yr old son to the abattoir where he worked, & allowed him to slaughter a calf !

I truly despised that man, & I found-out some months after that he'd had an accident with a baseball bat.

As society said, Karma will get them in the end....It just took a bit of arranging :)

I feel sick to my stomach, I really do. I know nature can be cruel, with cats and other birds attacking fledglings but that is nature. This is a nasty individual (or group) who finds killing animals fun.

And where the heck are they getting fireworks from???

Same as everyone above, this kind of thing makes me so sad and angry that words fail me they really do, the poor mother and I hope the baby birds didn't suffer.

Do you have any clue as to who could be responsible for this baby Jane? Not that I would reccommend confronting them or anything but to keep an eye out in future, hopefully the scum will meet karma like others have said.

I felt so sick and cried for ages for there were ( Im sorry if this is upsetting) bits of babies in the box. I could hardly sleep last night and I could hear the mother bird chirping most of the night. She was sitting on top of the box all day.

The old lady across the way said some lads of about 15 / 16 were hanging around,but as you say if I did know them what cruelty would they do next in retaliation for being ticked off.

I wasn't suggesting you ticked them off Baby (that could be dangerous), just keep an eye out in future for their names cropping up and any unfortunate accidents that just happen to come their way, karma will catch up with them sooner or later the scum!

I can't believe anyone would want to do such a terrible, wicked thing. I'm a great believer in karma too & I'm sure it will come back to the person/s who did it one day - evil scrotes!

I had tears of joy all last month - standing at our kitchen sink, watching Mummy & Daddy Blue Tits flitting back & forth to their little ones in our nesting boxes. They were so dedicated & I just can't imagine what I'd have done had any of them come to any harm.

This is horrible. If it was me I would write to the paper because I know that people's emotions would be stirred by this. Also it would get back to the horrible yobs that did it. I would also contact the police and warn them that if they are capable of this, what else might they get up to. The police will then hopefully keep an eye out for them and GET them when they next do something else they think they are invincible about. If you do nothing, they will have got away with it, like they seem to do these days because of the FEAR that we live in. It is WRONG.

It's too awful for words. I can't begin to describe how angry that makes me. I think Scarlett has a point though, writing to your local paper would be a good idea I think. Also, it will make you feel like you've done something positive to help you get over the shock.

I believe that what goes round, comes round aswell. xx

I hope they blow their fingers off, I`ve got a nesting box in my garden and there was some bluetits using it, all day long two of them would be in and out feeding the chicks inside

Its awful isnt it. I can totally empathise with you as I had similarish happen with my cat. She was shot with an air rifle, numerous times, twice in the head. She did survive though, after lengthy op.
On another note, I know a lovely guy, he really is nice. When he was 15 he put a firework through someones porch letterbox. It was meant to scare the mean old lady that lived there, he had no idea her dog was there. He killed it, admittedly as soon as he knew he handed himself in, he couldnt live with it and is possibly why he is so nice now.

Maybe it wasnt intentional? Maybe they were just looking to blow a box up and create some noise? Im probably being a little optomistic but go to the papers and let them see how disgusted everyone is. They wont feel half as clever then.
