At least i think they are Greys and not Yellow Wagtails that we identified them as initially ! Apparently they are quite common in this country, but, this is the first time I've ever seen one,so,I'm all chuffed ;-).THe yellow colouring is beautiful and the tail is so long,it reminds you of a magpie almost.
we have baby birds just out of the nest in the garden hoping around and demanding to be fed.
The newts are doing well, although they are a little miffed as i had to some pond maintenance last week because the builders had let there dog go for a swim, ignorant gits!
funniest thing last week was seeing one of our ferral queens trying to catch a mole, she managed to get half her body down a mole hill and still could not catch it!
We have introduced scatter feeds in the garden, as there is a log pile next to the bird table, i fill the nooks and crannies with seed so larger birds still get a look in! its quite fascinating to watch!

These are such lovely posts - it's so nice to read about everything that's going on in our different parts of the country.
I was reading your post on burnhal's thread ray and can just imagine you in your little patch of heaven. Nature is wonderful and totally awe inspiring and I never tire of watching it. It amazes me that people miss so much because of the hurry everyone is in - they don't notice what's going on around them or aren't interested. I was at a meeting at work the other day and we have sparrows nesting under wall tiles (how they manage I don't know!). Being sparrows they were making a lot of noise and my colleague was getting really fed up with the racket as she called it. How can anyone not find their sheer exuberance uplifting?

Hiya, ray and everyone else!! It's so nice to read all your posts - we've had our fair share of dramas here lately (did you see my post on saving a life a couple of days ago?). The swallows have fledged & are flying well now and there are young siskins on the niger seed feeder with their parents. Even my old crow and his mate have taken to bringing their youngsters down to the feeding station, to clear up the dropped bits from the ground. They don't seem to bother the smaller birds, so I'll let them be, for now. We've got a jay, too, and a family of greater spotted woodpeckers who turn up every morning with their young. The blue, coal and great tits are all doing well, babies fledged and making a heck of a racket in the ash tree where the peanut feeder is!! And there's a young nuthatch too and a really cheeky juvenile robin who seems to have taken over the "patch" from the adults. I hear barn & tawny owls at night, but I've not usually up too late during the week, so haven't seen them yet. K xxx
