About 30cm apart should be ok. I would be careful using goldcrest though as it is not very hardy and although will take it very cold it can get frost damage if exposed. The problem is many are grown under protection and can be soft when purchased. If buying now dont plant when a frost is due. These also need to be kept moist until well established so make sure you will be able to water them well.
