I managed to take a photo of a large flock of waxwings which had landed on a tree outside my house. I had seen them earlier in the week , but they flew off before I could get a good look at them. I don't think I've seen one before and certainly not a flock of about 30. Any twitchers out there fill me in on them? I live in Perth. (By the way, it was my brother who identified them as waxwings from a book he has)
hi suno--they made it as far as us (county antrim) this year
they comeover from scandinavia for winter-usually to east of england /scotland
they feed on hawthorn-cotoneaster etc berries
im not an expert twithcher-someone else may pop in soon
Cheers folks! - very interesting, I appreciate birds although don't know much about them. It's great to see some species thriving amongst the doom and gloom of plummeting numbers you normally hear about
