like on facebook...

just a short space under the username, to write notes, like happy birthday aber, or announce your own, or a whatver

it could also cut down on pointless statuses like 'im bored' or 'its hot today' or repetitive ones like 'rip dead celeb' that fill up the boards pushing better ones off

I like that suggestion joko :)

I had in mind a character limit, which would prevent rambling
you don't get much better threads than that on CB anyway
I would miss the pointless threads, I like them..
Another potential problem for the Ed and Mods to try and police too and probably more difficult to spot though.

true, policing the content of the status's would be thankless and time consuming.
joko...You are risking being told by the Ed to stay away from his 'Suggestions ' and 'Editor;s Blog' sections, but politely told to engage and enjoy yourself in the rest of the AB site.

I speak from experience.

Ron.
No, I really don't see why we would need this sort of stuff. If people want to post statuses (which I really don't understand why they should), they can do it on FB. We don't want to be the same as FB.
I like it most when its questions and answers.
I agree boxtops.

but people do post 'statuses' all the time on here ... unfortunately in the guise of a question ... thats my point...

i agree itd be hard to monitor but it may help lessen the nonsense posts...
I think CB is there to filter the nonsense posts in to one area... although not always very successfully! I don't have anything against the idea but I do think it would succeed only if people clicked on peoples profiles which I know I won't be ar$ed to do... thus if no one really looks at the profiles then the nonsense type stuff will still be posted because no one would be paying attention to posters profile particularly.
I really don't understand the definition of "posting statuses" - does it mean "what you are feeling like"? I don't understand it on FB either. A status is a state or condition of affairs according to my dictionary - and I can't see the point on FB of people posting "I'm just having a cup of tea" or "there's someone at the door" - get a life, peeps. We don't get a huge amount of them here on AB, and if we do and people get fed up, the OP soon knows about it.
omg no please no...... it will be akin to the footnote of 'does this help' sorry if you are looking Leggy but it just brought your one to mind
It's an interesting idea Joko. You're sort of suggesting we take the social elements of the site (Chatterbank) and break it down for parts to be used in profiles, like another tab here: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/members/joko/

I wouldn't mind everyone having a publicly viewable "bulletin board" as a tab on the profiles page - this might cut down on the FAO's (although it might turn Sqad's profile into the most traffic'd part of the site....)

Once you approach this idea you've got to start thinking about how to filter it however, things like stopping spammers (maybe just a captcha?) and stopping abuse (a "friends" list?) would need to be built in - and I don't think it would be easy or worth our time policing as we are?

All the best,

Ed.
tripping on ego? Rather a bluey !
Molly would have needed a whole high street advertising hoarding for her "Statuses" (is that a right word?).....
Imagin some on here overthe years...

Status... Single
Married
divorced
married
divorced
married
separated
etc
I think face books 'its complicated' is a good one
