I'm going to start our 22 month old son at nursery for a couple of days a week. I will be going to all nurserys on the short list to assess them and see which one is more suitable for everybody, but I was wondering what questions to ask them while I am there.
I know I will only think of a good question after I leave so was hoping you lot could help.
Also, what should I look out for?
He is our first and I haven't had to deal with nurserys before so don't really know any big issues with leaving little people there all day.
Ask about lunch, nappy changes, my gchild comes home with a report every day.
Typical report would be, nappy change mid morning, wet or solid. Lunch - ate main and a pudding, or refuses, whatever. Had a nap after lunch. Was involved in play..... get my drift ??
Back to add a recent prob we experienced.... make sure nappy changers have a hygeine routine, hand foot and mouth disease came home with ours 2 weeks ago. Google it, nothing to do with foot & mouth.
Ask how long their staff have been there; in my experience a nursery where the staff want to stay is a good indicator that they are a good nursery. Also; think about what's important to you; for example; if you want him to be outside a lot ask how much they get to go outside; have a look at the outside area to see if it looks used to judge the extent of truth to their answer.
i would also ask what qualifications the staff have. The cheaper one local to me pretty much just had staff who were at college different days as they were all still training apart from the manager. I'd prefer a mixture of young and older staff and training.
dnt make an appointment turn up at about 10 or 2 say u thought ud pop in to have a look around as ur looking for somewhere. i worked in a nursery and know when a parent used to look around theyd make it look way better than it ever was
