Inquisitor 1213

In the Indie Inquisitor 1213 I can't resolve an answer to unnumbered clue "Hitler heartlessly destroyed German state" (5).

As with all Inquisitor puzzles deriving the answer is not straight forward. The answer to the definition part of the clue is cut back by a letter. By inference from the other extra letters in the clues, that spare letter is "N". The remaining letters in are in the wordplay and are then entered into the puzzle. I have REI?; I'd like to enter RHIE but that does not fit. Advice please.

Could somebody please explain what the setter means with "90° symmetry"? There seem to be too few clues for any conventional arrangement.

Using my 2 longest answers I've found 2 different ways they could work to achieve rotational symmetry in my grid. However I can't seem to make my answer to the "ruptured spleen" clue fit into either set up! Am now thinking I've totally misled myself! Any tips please?

Hi Indy Trier.

The 2 longest go in a cross formation in the centre. The down answer loses its first s. Your spleen answer should fit along the second (and now only) s of the down answer.
I don't know if that makes any sense to you?

Thanks Voulez-vous. That's what I have already - giving me SP in the centre of my 9 letters and N on the end. Confirmation from you has now proved I have the wrong anagram and spare letter for this word! Any tips re the right one please?

Hi chilternman1 - it isn't black or blank, you may have resolved that problem, but look at Gotham without the "t" and "b" added - if you don't you may end up sleeping with the fishes (or possibly throwing yourself in front of your new high speed rail link)!

Thanks to Voulez-vous I have now nearly completed the grid and solved the missing letters part. There's only one space left to fill. I still haven't got the answer to the clue that starts "Cabinetmaker". I have all but one of the 7 word play letters and I know that the omitted letter from the 8 letter word must be a T, but am still struggling!! Can any one help before I start on this week's please?

Hi Indy-T. Old vinegar is eisel, tree is ben. With the omitted t the whole is a french word for cabinet maker.
