Inquisitor 1213

In the Indie Inquisitor 1213 I can't resolve an answer to unnumbered clue "Hitler heartlessly destroyed German state" (5).
As with all Inquisitor puzzles deriving the answer is not straight forward. The answer to the definition part of the clue is cut back by a letter. By inference from the other extra letters in the clues, that spare letter is "N". The remaining letters in are in the wordplay and are then entered into the puzzle. I have REI?; I'd like to enter RHIE but that does not fit. Advice please.
Thanks in advance.

There's only one space left to fill. I still haven't got the answer to the clue that starts "Cabinetmaker". I have all but one of the 7 word play letters and I know that the omitted letter from the 8 letter word must be a T, but am still struggling!! Can any one help before I start on this week's please?
