Would it be at all possible to launch a protest to be signed by as many A/Bers as possible to be presented to the Prime Minister asking for the release of this unfortunate man who is incarcerated on a point of principal ?

I wondered what you were on about Ron, when I read your post earlier today but couldn't be bothered to open the link. I have just read the Guardian's article on the other thread and have to say I completely agree with you.

I don't know what the answer is as he needs to wear something until the rest of us have caught up with him and we can all `return to the garden'.

If the law says you may not go around in your birthday suit in public, you go to prison for breaking the law. If you feel the principle is so important, you could lobby for a change in the law, but you may not just defy it.
I personally would be much offended to be confronted by a naked man in any public circumstances, and I am quite sure so many other people would be affronted that the law will not be changed. He will just have to lump it.
There are plenty of laws I don't like, but I don't break them "on principle" ( not "principal", by the way )

The 'offence' is not being naked, the 'offence' is causing alarm/distress, etc to persons *by* your nakedness.

The Courts are saying that he would alarm, etc. etc. the public.......without any of the public actually making a complaint of *being* alarmed.

Indeed, on his many journeys, it appears that *no-one* has complained that they have been offended by his appearance.

can't say he'd bother me, and he doesn't appear to have bothered anyone very much. This sounds like a victimless crime to me. Still, the police have to have something to do, I suppose.
