Answering questions quickly

Shooty, Lie-in-King and Boxtops (and lots of others) How do you answer the questions so quickly? This is not me being petulant. It's a genuine query.

Are you looking at a different page from the one I'm looking at? My page has the latest posts on the right hand side and sometimes, when I click on the latest one, it says no answers yet received. I type in ADA and send it off and three people have got there before me.

Do you just have a quicker reaction time or am I on the wrong page?

You could try clicking on the Crosswords link (left hand side of this page). You will probably see the puzzles appear a fraction sooner than they do in Latest Posts.

It's all solving it more or less at same time. Nothing there will you are all typing then press submit and find you are one of several.

Undoubtedly, there are a lot of outstandingly intelligent people on here. Just want to know how they can type so quickly.

Lots of people make their living by typing, as it were. It becomes second nature after a while...

To be honest, i'm a 1 finger typer. I don't use the copy and paste method either. I don't know to answer your question. I make a deal of errors because i do not hesitate to answer

I think broadband speed plays a part as does having done the crossword already. So does quick wit and keeping a constant eye on latest posts.

I keep open 5 tabs.
1. AB
2. DICTIONARY.COM
3. CROSSWORD SOLVER
4. ANAGRAM SOLVER
5. GOOGLE

I use these in conjuntion with parsing, reference and spelling. hope this helps : )

I know how you feel Tilly. I sometimes answer really quickly thinking I will be the first, but by the time It comes up about 3 have answered. Keep trying though, cos you never know. You could beat the rest of em one day

Its good to be first, but i think the feedback you get when you have parsed and explained the answer clearly, so the OP understands. Far more rewarding IMO : )

Thank you, shooty. I have just been relying on my brain and nothing else. I'm obviously going about things the wrong way.
The only other things I use are Chambers Crossword Lists and Bradford's 8th, edition Crossword Solver's Dictionary.
It takes me ages to do the Guardian Crossword on Saturdays, as I spend most of my time chewing the end of my pencil whilst staring into middle distance. My OH calls it my Guardian trance.

We all rely upon brain power, but we all need reference from time to time. With reference to the ADA. It was a simple clue that didn't warrant a post on here imo. Simply just a fast responce got the answer to the top of the list. : )

Don't forget the Search box at the top of the page. Especially on Sundays the same questions are asked over and over and you can find previous answers by putting the clue into the Search box. And clues are often recycled so you may find answers from years ago by this method.

:-) I answered one this morning with no responses, only to find that three others had got there before me....! It's down to a) knowing the answer b) being a fast typist c) knowing what to look for if you need to research... thank you for asking me, but I am far from being first frequently. If LiK has answered, I tend to think I needn't look!
