Although it seems a certain number of ABers obviously use the sub sections of the various topics, are they really necessary?

And how many open them up to enter a question etc?

I agree.

Most football threads appear under the main "Sport" heading, because posters know that fewer people open up the sub headings.

Having said which ... I'm still campaigning for there to be a Netball sub heading in that Section.
A few years ago there weren't the sub-sections and there was no chatterbank... and then they changed.
Must admit, the only time I use a sub section is when I post a joke.
Some aren't - but some are. R&S is a sub-topic that's usually pretty busy.

Haven't you just answered yourself there? ;-)
Some could be trimmed.

Which would you put on the block AOG?
Lots of things are not necessary, doesn't mean they aren't useful.
However the fact they are not on permanent display but needs one to know to click on the "Topics" link is, I agree, less than ideal.
some of them do require up dating
I like having the Twitching and Birdwatching bit under Animals and Nature. And the Pet sub sec.

These are well trafficked - it's things like "current affairs" which I'd drop.

Suggestions for individual categories to be dropped will be take seriously.
ok. starting from the bottom up, TRAVEL. why is it necessary to have destinations, and getting there as sup topics ? why not just have travel ?
i always click on the sub sections. I like to look a geneololy, jokes, weight loss and food and drink recipies. I find it very handy ♥
They seem quite well used to me Anne? I do see the logic however.

If I added a flight time calculator, would those sub-sections be worth it?
Remove Share Dealing, Recipes (goes into Food), Most of the Gaming ones, Myths and Legends, just have Law, take out Reality TV, Gigs and Clubs.......
remove military too, not even a single solitary post in there despite the request for it in the first place- nowt as fickle as AB folk ;-)
I like the topics and sub section headings but feel they could be much more effective if it became impossible to post under the main heading.

Eg Sport. If the question is not one of the main topics we should pick "Other Sport" rather than the main topic of Sport. Same with Quizzes and Puzzles. It means we search unecessarily through both the main topic and the sub heading for questions on a specific topic.
Remove 'Christmas' because a quick look will reveal that I am the only person who is making full use of it.

Ron.
Please, please leave reality TV... I don't want Big Brother or jungle celebrities posts all over the bloody site again! I would get rid of weather.
CD.....I couldn't care less about Reality TV, However I agree with what you would wish to see removed.

It remains to be seen 'weather' the Ed takes us seriously.

Ron.
Surely the answer is to make main heading un-postable where sub-sections exist.
