I answered someone using the new but because they have used quotation marks it came out like this... <br/> <br/> <br/> <br/> Why did you find it necessary to put &quot;this man&quot; in italics ??![i]

Which makes it look daft.

It seems to be that one must not under any circumstance use quotation marks when italicizing words and punctuations are also a risk which one takes if a sentence is to remain free of unwanted entries and it also seems to be important that not more than a single sentence is used because a paragraph would involve the use of a full stop which could then throw everything into a state of confusion and the whole of the italicized entry would be far from what was intended and would look rather ugly in its printed form

why not just add a button for italics and bold, same as in word?

why add the facility to do use italics but make it awkward to use?
joko....I agree.

The Ed's idea of having italics was good but at present it is a messy process and, without an 'Edit Box' in AB, it's a hit and miss affair.
