get rid of chatter bank
Might it be an idea to get rid of Chatter Bank and just mark it down as one that we tried but it didn't work. It seems that ever since it was launched there is a lot more nastiness on this site and people just being generally horrible to each other. Now some of the longer standing members and people who have posted many geunine, great replies to serious questions have left. I did like the idea of the Chatter Bank but you have to admit, its just not working.

Hopefully though some of the memebers that have set up chat rooms to one side of chatterbank would still accomodate the members who frequent the CB. The volume of posts in other catagories has suffered and the knock on effect is detracting away from the original purpose of the site. Of course the CB is for more jovial questions etc. but if this upsets the intended nature of AB then surely it would be more beneficial to return to the format that was.
Because it's becoming clogged up with pointless postings. If you post a question or topic in 'News' for example, that topic stays on the first page for quite some time, therefore drawing intelligent answers and interesting debates. Post a worthwhile topic on CB however, and it disappears onto the previous page in no time.
I have to agree with Milly and Iceman - CB seems to have a detrimental effect on the rest of Answerbank. It's all getting juvenile and nasty. We don't really need CB, 'suggestions' seemed to be good enough for most of us.
As several posters have said, there are plenty of chat sites for those who feel the need for them.
It does work for a site designed for mindless chatter, however I think it would be beneficial to have it on a different site as to allow questions and answers of a less pointless nature to be answered in a sensible manner. The AB makes its money from advertisers investment not from, " I am going to the shop, anybody want anything" so I feel that the chatterbank will be pulled anyway unless stricter control of mindless questions can be addressed.
I don't think that we should write it off yet. For one thing this time of year always seems to bring the loons and the dear children out of the woodwork...then they get bored with us middle aged farts and go elsewhere....also it hasn't been open that long, we're still really in shakedown mode.
When you read what it says at the top of CB, it seems clear, at least to me, that this area was intended for pointless postings.
Yes there has been a lot of animosity lately, but this is the internet except for the ED, its not our real life. When i was a kid we used to chant "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me...good internet motto that!
Got to say I haven't noticed much spill over to other areas, except for some quickly pulled posts. I have ignored loads of stuff on CB but I do post in CB and there are quite a few iof us "normallies" who do too.
Anyway, here endeth the lecture for today
ha ha and I'm only 21! (although i sometimes act like an 90 year old).
Anyway, I do post on CB sometimes when I feel the questions are worth it and whilst the pointless ones do bug me no end, its the snide comments that I really dont like. When I joined in December everyone seemed to get on really well and were just here to join in with topical debates and give opinions where they counted. Maybe knowing more about each other is not such a good thing after all if this is the effect is has
