I joined a slow cooker page on FB recently - not only are they obsessed with bloody slow cookers now they are having a falling out about some comment or other. How can they fall out about slow cookers? Never knew they were so controversial.

Maybe they need to get out more so that they can put things into perspective and realise that there is a big world out there (beyond slow cookers)

It is funny though, they are v polite about it - one member wants admin to 'tell off' another member. Hope nothing bad happens to any of them in their lives, their heads would melt.
Do they have a For Sale section on that site? They can have my slow cooker. There isn`t anything that I can cook in it that I can`t cook in a casserole dish (with better results, a lot of the time)
Question Author
Don't say that, I've only just bought one - but it looks huge even for all my lot. Probably should have thought it through better, could ask on the FB page for ideas but I would probably get lynched!
my mum had 1 40 years ago, never used it as thought it might catch fire if she wasn't about to keep an eye on it
FB groups are a bit notorious, some people can argue about anything!...kind of like R and S lol

Someone on here recommended the page but did warn me that they were a bit obsessed with their slow cookers (or sc's for those in the know). They post pictures of food that that they have got off the marked down shelves in the supermarkets and then ask what to do with it or they post pictures of what they have made.
I`m sure it will be fine. And good for a large family or if you want to make extra portions. It`s just that whenever I have cooked meat in the slow cooker, the result is that the meat comes out as tough as an old boot. I`m pretty sure that it is me that is making the error and not the cooker.
Sherr, I did say it was a big cooker....:x}
It's great for rice puddings! I haven't had any problems cooking meat in the slow cooker but I think I'd prefer a pressure cooker. I used to use my mum's all the time before I got married and moved away, it was great for cooking meat and other things - maybe I shall see about getting one
sherrardk, don't talk to me about slow cookers, until I joined this site and maybe other forums, I never heard of one, well Tilly had a post on here yesterday about a slow cooker and tons of garlic, i looked up slow cookers online and bought one...now i just have to figure out how to use it, I hope i find that fb page for a few recipes :)

The one I had before was tiny but that was before kids. I will just wait for inspiration to strike me or I could just make jam for every house in the village.
I don't have a slow cooker, nor do I want one. I do have a pressure cooker though and wouldn't be without it. Good nutritious meals all cooked (on different levels) at the same time. No cooked away vitamins.
Question Author
Nungate - never fancied a pressure cooker as they always looked a bit dangerous.

Ducksie - the one I joined is called 'slow cooked wonders', but they do appear to be barking.

Question Author
Jeza - it was really reasonable so if I only use it a couple of times I will have spent my money well.
doh, have i got to post the bloody book link again[i..

cut veg up small, cover -just -with liquid, put meat on top

[i]mph]
Lol...I bought one and the recipe book that came with it advised to brown the meat on the hob, put into the slow cooker and then fry off the onions. Errrrrr....I may as well cook it on the hob!
I'll keep away from the barking then..I used have a pressure cooker too, I swore by it, had it over 15 years but family were nervous of it and didn't hang around when I used it, they were afraid because f stories they heard of the weight lifting to the roof once pressure would rise etc

I loved it
ummmm same as mine, says brown meat with onions, but i seen a nice recipe here recently for rice pudding
You'll use it, Sherr....I don't so much now but with a family and when I was working it was invaluable.......experiment and don't be scared...it's only a cooker.....x
