Mm Links February 2014 Week 1
44 Answers
Good morning, MM Linkers, from a novice setter and a somewhat apprehensive Boxtops, aka “The Cats’ Mother” (Who's she?) – with many thanks to Gen2 for his guidance since my appointment to this responsibility!
I have been an Answerbanker for several years now. When I joined, I had no idea what a community I was tiptoeing into – knowledgeable, helpful, humorous, sometimes difficult! – but it remains a delight to be part of this site. I am an inveterate crossworder and I admit that my cryptic skills have improved considerably, thanks to learning from the talents of those who answer regularly on here.
Since I am “The Cats’ Mother” for the next month, I will tell you a little about myself. I live on the South Coast, very near to the busiest passenger port in the country, beset with (or advantaged by) very busy road and rail links to the rest of the UK. Inland, it’s a small run-down town, but with prospects, even though we have one of the two most disadvantaged wards in this part of England. However, the history here is amazing – our Bronze Age Boat is world-famous, Dover Castle is visited by hundreds every day, our Western Heights fortifications are full of history, and the Romans are everywhere – mostly under the dual carriageways and office blocks, but we know they’re there!
I have lived here for seventeen years, having come from further along the south coast when I got a job here, which I have really enjoyed – I’ve been very lucky, and my first offices were right on the seafront. We live with our three cats, who many of you will know as Rover, Black Spot, and No.1 Son. OH and I are merely the catering staff, since the cats don’t yet have opposable thumbs, and they don’t help with domestic chores, either, which is very bad form.
In my leisure hours, I sit on a number of committees, being something of an organiser, especially with a couple of local youth voluntary organisations. It’s very rewarding to see young people develop their talents and broaden their career prospects, especially at a time when youth has a bad press some of the time. When at home, domesticity is not my forte – I would prefer to knit, or meet my friends, or sleep….

No best answer has yet been selected by boxtops. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The time has come for me to set you my first challenge. I remind you that according to normal practice, for the everyday running of MM, I shall follow this rule on word length, in that each of my pre-selected link words contains at least four letters and at most eight letters. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts!
Each of the selected link words may go in front of, or behind my challenge word to make a new longer word or to make a well-known phrase or saying. The combination will never be a person's name.
The competition will officially close on Sunday Evening at 7.00pm, when gen2 will declare my pre-selected words and then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00am.
