Can I Ask To See My Personal/personnel File At Work?
Hi
I am a driver for a charity shop organisation. I was with our CEO the other day, discussing a minor medical problem, and she asked me a question to which I didn't know the answer.
She then pulled out my personal file which was, to my surprise, about one inch thick. (I have only been there 2 years)
2 questions:
Am I entitled to see the file?
Can I ask to see it immediately? ( I ask this because I have doubts about the integrity of this person and would not put it past them to "sanitise" Yes I agree that it is not ideal to work in such circumstances, but let me tell you, there are not a lot of jobs out there for a 63 year old!)
I had what I thought was a minor issue a few months ago when I questioned certain practices which were costing the organisation money. At that time, I was under the impression that all had been dealt with around the table and I was not aware of any paperwork. Now, judging by the size of the file, I am wondering if any “reports” have been placed there without my knowledge. ??
A bit paranoid? Maybe, but the great comedian Jackie Mason once said "Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me!!"
If you got this far - Thank you!
