Use Of Sub-Sections

Should it be more encourage for posters to use the sub-sections more?

Take the News Topic, it has two sub-sections Current affairs and Politics.

With the start of the election process, surely it would be beneficial to all those ABers who are interested in the 'News yet not necessary in politics, for all political threads to be channelled into the political sub-section?

I think most of the subsections are a waste of time as ABers seem not to know they're there. AB should make a few of them into main sections, and donate the pixels in the rest of them to charity.

Yep to a large extent all sub-sections should be scrapped.

Yes. Scrap them. There are quite a few not used very often.

I agree with that general sentiment to scrap them, we've just not worked out a good way round keep the old answers from these sections visible yet. It might be that we just need to "take the hit" and mvoe the urls to a parent category.

Ed, I guess it should be possible to keep all the old categories intact for archiving (related answers.)

It would then only be a matter of simply NOT displaying them. All future questions would then only exist in the main headings.

Two reasons why the sub sections are underused - not enough interest in some and also not everyone knows you can extend the list.

Maybe a tag below the word 'Topics' saying 'Click to see full list'?

The old posts from subsections can remain on the system, you just need to remove them being displayed. Some subsections could be promoted to a section of their own, such as computers, while others could be ditched.
