Sounds like technical problem. But would like an opinion. I am 36 years in Credit Union dealing with the the customer their input of money and output of of loans and their payments.
Massive changes have happened to CU as they amalgamated 4 other CUs resulting 14,000 members so had to get new staff (I personally think they are now overstaffed - nevertheless). New people have brought in - some are paid some voluntary. I have been 36 vol and remain so. I am with this position.
I received a letter on Friday from manager (who could have called me up to the office) saying that from this Monday I will be "scanning".
Where is the bloody scanner, what does it do, how high is it - I am very much surmising it will be well away from the customers so lonely for me.
I rang her up and unfortunately she is fantastic at trying to win a point - "overtalks you" and you get nowhere.
She said it was to let everybody get around the system etc. Why did she pick a 36 vol compared to 2 years vol or paid worker.
I genuinely know nothing about scanners - what they do - is it is a monontous job - to me it sort reminds me of a photocopier. If it is and I go on Monday and find this out - I QUIT. Let me know of your opinions. She still wants me to work on the Tuesdaynight (which I enjoy) but I feel so hurt re this matter.
mamy thanks for your input - but you wouldn't believe - even my cousin says so - over the years I have put my name for volunteering jobs and I never from them again. My cousin and I believe they are in a clique.
Surely you will be given training come Monday?? I have worked with scanners in my office and I must say it is not a job I enjoyed doing. Our scanners kept breaking down.
"She said it was to let everybody get around the system etc. "
" I genuinely know nothing about scanners "
There you go then -she wants everyone to know their way around the office and as you have had no experience of scanning you are getting some training. It doesn't mean you will be doing it forever.
I had a very senior post years ago and had no idea how to scan - so I spent half a day with the office junior learning all the menial tasks in case someone was away and I needed something fast.
See what's it all about on Monday. If you don't like the 'set-up' tell the Manager accordingly. Then should it end up with your opting out from the CU, it will be tragic for the organisation, but hopefully, you will rest in the knowledge that you have 36 years to your Credit. I feel sure there are lots of folk in Answerbank who are right behind you......myself included.
typing manager of many women over the years - but the last lot was 24 women- a horrendous of a job - 11 very nasty women and the rest were beauts and the beauts got me through the day.
Remember one morning I was so stressed over the 11 women I had a bad taste in my mouth I went into bathroom and the blood was streaming down my teeth. Boss didnt want to know. Think I came through a nightmare in that job but never knew it.
HO HO Ho - Hans - it would never be tragic for CU as always there is something or someone to take your place.
Her letter starts off "as you will be aware things and rotas are changing " - no sorry I was never aware at all. There is beginning to be a clique in the place - will see what tomorrow brings.
I used to work at a large electrical components manufacturers many years ago, most of the employee's were women ( probably about 80 % ). T'was great fun, I wouldn't have wanted to be in charge of any though !.

Ask her how you should be well aware of things and rotas changing.
