the Iranians also boasted that by selectively leaking ( made up) memos about the weapons of mass destruction they had achieved a major foreign policy goal ( overthrow Saddam Hussien ) with no loss to themselves what so ever.

No I think the thread is about outsiders ( or foreigners ) influencing elections -

and so parallels would obviously have to draw on other elections which may have been rigged or not
and could not refer to other Brexit elections as erm there havent been any

The worry about the us election is not that it was actually rigged but that a hostile foreign power managed to hack into computer systems with malign intent and may actually have tried to interfere with voting machines (but failed)
