because as the article points out a million are at risk, been targeted, and hurt in some despicable way, by theft, rape, and indeed murder. I get your point though,

I agree.....if someone attacks you it hurts the same whether the person is hostile or off their head on drugs.

The article is talking about verbal abuse, attacks are already covered by other legislation.

actually that i do get.....it could well be more frightening to be abused because you are old than for a young person to be abused because they are ginger for instance.

danny its not just verbal attacks. Campaign groups want extra protection for frail and vulnerable older people from verbal, physical and other abuse. What it may do is add extra protection for those old people drawn into mail or phone scams but hey ho they have to catch the perpetrators first....
