In Croatia, HGVs have restrictions on when they can travel on motorways and main trunk roads, particularly between June and September. This only works because they move a lot of freight by train. It simply wouldn't work here. I used to use the motorway every day to get to work and back and while they could be a nuisance at times, I learned to live with it. The biggest problem I had was lane hoppers, tailgaters and those who thought the middle and outside lanes belonged to them. I used to leave plenty of time for my journey. I remember one day on my journey back home, seeing people belting down the hard shoulder because of queuing traffic. The police pulled them all over and gave them tickets. It's the same with the morons who belt down the outside lane and pull over to leave the motorway at the last minute. Most of those I saw doing so never gained any advantage as they were continually braking and getting held up. People complain about the cost of fuel, then go down the motorway at 80mph plus, wasting fuel at a rate of knots.
