Hi there ABers, We're off to London by train during February and we'd like, if possible, to take buses, rather than the underground. We're coming into Euston, so does anyone out there know what bus/es will take us from Euston to South Kensington (for the V and A), please? Perhaps there's a London bus map which provides a route-planner? Hope you can help, many thanks, Chox.

It has a journey planner. Make the museums a whole day though, and if you want to do the galleries split them. Tate and Tate modern and National and National portrait. If you were doing the tower of London prepare to queue for the crown jewels
When I went, the queue time to see The Crown Jewels was 4 hours. I didn't bother.
We went in December once - no queues at all.

Was perishing though.

thanks for all your help, folks ... we're just off to see the Dior Exhibition at the V and A. We used to live in the SE of the UK, and have done most of the sights over the years. We do have Oyster cards, and also our freedom bus passes, so won't have a problem with the fares. Your suggestions, though, were much appreciated. Best wishes, Chox.
your local old person buss card will work on Lundy buses but not underground
so go by bus ( free see - your OAP goes furder)

The hub is behind Oxford St - get there and all the buses go outwards from that point. I cdnt believe it
There are a few ways to get from Euston to the V&A at South Kensington by bus:

- You can take a 73 to Gower Street and change onto a 14 which will take you to South Kensington (outside the V&A and Natural History Museums). This will take you through “Theatreland”, Piccadilly Circus and Hyde Park Corner.

- You can take 205 to Baker Street and a 74 from there to South Kensington (as above). This goes via Marble Arch, Park lane and Hyde Park Corner.

- You can take a 59 to Aldwych then a number 9 from there to Exhibition Road (the stop before the Royal Albert Hall). This will go via Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly. Up to 2014 there were some “Heritage” Routemaster buses (from the 1960s) still operating on this route and there still are on Route 15 between Tower Hill and Trafalgar Square. You can then either walk down Exhibition Road to the V&A (probably about 10-15mins walk). If it’s wet you can dive down the pedestrian subway by the Science Museum (on the corner of Imperial College Road) and there is an entrance to the V&A from that subway. If you don’t fancy the walk there is the 360 bus which goes down Exhibition Road.

I should think each of these journeys will take you an hour or so. The 73 used to go all the way from Euston to Exhibition Road (then on to Hammersmith and, many moons ago, to Richmond, Twickenham and Hounslow). Unfortunately it was cut back and diverted to Victoria in 1990 and was cut back further to Oxford Circus last year. The number 30 would also have been an alternative to South Kensington but that was diverted and cut back to Trafalgar Square in 1991. It has since (1998) been diverted again and now only goes as far as Marble Arch.

However, I’m rambling (which I’m prone to do whenever London Bus routes come up in conversation).
