Where Can I Buy A Poster Of This Part 2.
26 Answers
Just to let those of you who may be interested to know, I emailed Shirley Bakers daughter yesterday and received a reply today. I will copy and paste part of her email in case any of you may be interested.
It doesn't always work when I copy and paste but it says she can order an A3 coloured print for £300. Unfortunately this is more than I wanted to pay. I have found a website where you can upload a picture and can order a poster for less than £20 and I might do that. The only problem is I don't understand the wording where it gives the sizes of the poster, it says the size you can choose but then it says 'Flat (no inside) ' I don't know what that means.Any ideas? I will post this now and hope the copy and paste works.
Thank you for your email. It’s lovely to hear your life story and how the photographs bring back such fond memories. I am happy to make you a new colour print of the girl swinging from the lamppost. Size can be roughly A3 size and the price £300.
If you would like one please advise your postal address and I will instruct the printer this week and email an invoice
Many thanks

I sound like I'm being flippant when I said how would she know, but I was actually being serious.

"Flat Size: This refers to the dimensions of a document after it has been printed and received any necessary trimming, but before it has been subject to any operations that further affect its size, such as folding. Flat Size is often used interchangeably with Trim Size. For documents that are not folded, the Flat Size is also the same as the Finished Size."
eleanor if you see this, I have sent for the book and I do know about the Manchester Libraries and the Trafford Lifetimes. I was actually born and bred in Old Trafford but my parents and grandparents are from Hulme so I love these old photos even though they make me sad to see the houses being demolished.
// barsel, has she (Nan Levy) given you permission to buy a print in this way? I think that contravenes copyright law.//
the way the law works is that Nan is the representative on earth of Shirl
and can do anything that Shirl cd do
this is settled law and is here

You are unlikely to get a good print from a picture you have downloaded from the net.
All to dod with the resolution of the image.
A picture uploaded to the internet is low resolution (72dpi) but to get a descent print, the image needs to be high resolution (at least 300-600dpi).
The digital image also needs to be of a similar size to how you want it printed. So if your image is off the net and the size of a postage stamp, it will not scale up.
Your best option is to buy the £20 book, and get someone to scan the picture you want from that, and then get it printed at A3 or to size for a frame you have.
You will still be breaking copyright, but unlikely to get caught.

woofgang I did say how would she know, I also said I sound like I'm being flippant but I'm being serious. In other words, if there was a way she could find out and I would be breaking a law, then I wouldn't do it.
Gromit they change the resolution for you. I already have the image scanned into my computer, but I have sent for the book anyway and if it won't be breaking any laws, I'll print a copy off from that on my own printer.

They can up the resolution, but they cannot add detail that isn’t there. So they can scale up the size, but not the quality.
Your poster may be fine viewed from a distance, but may be jaggedly and pixellated close up.
And you are breaking copyright law. The artistic work is protected for 70 years in the UK. By reproducing it without permission, you are breaking the law.
