Bbc Quiz Of The Year
55 Answers
Christmas greetings from me to all of the Friday quiz ‘regulars’ (and, of course, to ‘occasional visitors’ and ‘first-timers’ too!)
It’s time for the big BBC Quiz of The Year but I’ll just get a few other things out of the way first though:
ADVERT NUMBER ONE: For anyone who’s not yet seen Woodelf’s website (which I know that he’s keen to promote) and who would like to see his fine paintings (which he’s created despite being totally blind) please click here: http:// thearts ight.00 0webhos tapp.co m/index .htm
ADVERT NUMBER TWO: For anyone who enjoys wildlife photos, and who missed the handful of seal pics I posted a couple of days ago, please see here: https:/ /www.th eanswer bank.co .uk/Cha tterBan k/Quest ion1778 068.htm l
(They’re not exhibition quality but I still quite like them anyway)
Moving on at last then . . .
There appears to be no junior quiz from Aunty Beeb this week but anyone who’s a bit bored over Christmas might care to try some of these themed kids’ quizzes instead: https:/ /www.bb c.co.uk /cbbc/c uration s/newsr ound-qu izzes
(I’ve not tried any myself yet. If I did, I suspect that I might get some appallingly low scores!)
We do, however, have a Timed Teaser this week, where I could only score a lousy THREE out of ten. (It was one of those weeks where I actually knew several of the answers but still clicked incorrectly through trying to beat that ruddy fast-moving timer bar!)

Moving onto the big annual quiz, it comes (as usual) in four parts, with thirteen questions in each part . . .
January to March is covered here:
https:/ /www.bb c.co.uk /news/w orld-59 634182
I managed a ‘middling’ SEVEN out of thirteen.
April to June can be found here:
https:/ /www.bb c.co.uk /news/w orld-59 645996
I was bang in the middle again, with another SEVEN out of thirteen
July to September is here:
https:/ /www.bb c.co.uk /news/w orld-59 646073
Yet again, I scored SEVEN out of thirteen. That’s probably not unusual though – people often say that I’m “quite big around the middle” ;-)
You can test out your (relatively) short-term memory here, with questions from October to December:
https:/ /www.bb c.co.uk /news/w orld-59 646080
I finally moved off my regular score of seven, and in the right direction too, with NINE out of thirteen.
Tell us all your scores below and of course, HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

No best answer has yet been selected by Buenchico. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.As I said above, Roo, I've not tried any of those yet but I might do later on. (I didn't include them directly in this thread for fear of swamping my post with too many links). However your decent scores suggest that, like many of Aunty Beeb's quizzes intended for kids, it's not too hard for us grown-ups to do reasonably well in them but perhaps a bit trickier to actually achieve perfection ;-)
Thanks for your post, Ken. Woodelf is a genius - and quite a character too. (Working with him to design his website was challenging but fun!).
I'm sorry that you can't access Woodelf's site, Cashier; it loads OK for me. It could be that some ISPs (or the DNS servers they use) block access to that webhosting service because, being free, it can occasionally get used by scammers, etc. It might be worth trying to view it on your phone (using your 4G or 5G connection and NOT your home wi-fi, so that you bypass any restrictions in your ISP's circuit). If you do so, I suggest turning your phone horizontally and using your fingers to get the page to fit the screen. (You only need to do it on the home page. The rest of the site will adjust to the same width automatically). The site is definitely accessible using Vodafone's transmitters (via Asda Mobile in my case). Alternatively you could turn on the 'mobile hotspot' feature on your phone and connect to laptop to the wi-fi signal from it.

Five, three, eight and seven for the year's quizzes.
I use an ipad Buenchico, and as for the phone, it's a basic smart phone and I rarely use it. Unfortunately I'll have to give Woodelf's art a miss but thanks for explaining how to view it. Thanks for posting the quizzes every Friday and Merry Christmas to you and your cat family.

A good mix of scores there, Cashier!
Merry Christmas from the Troublesome Trio and from me too ;-)

Wow! I wasn't actually expecting anyone to try ALL of the kids' quizzes, Kwillmott! From your scores, it looks like achieving a perfect score in any of them isn't particularly easy!
Welcome to the club with that 3 on the timed quiz!
Your memory seems to have been somewhat better for the second half of the year than for the first, I see ;-)
Thanks for joining in each week - and Merry Christmas!

I got 12/20, which is better quality guesswork than I usually manage with the BBC.
I can't get Woodelf's pages either.

A good mix of scores, Clover. Thanks for you kind comments (and for joining in every week!). The cats and I send our best wishes to you for a Very Merry Christmas!
You're the first to get a double figure score anyway, Mozz!
You're currently in the lead on the timed quiz, Sharon. A drop or two of alcohol clearly helped ;-)
See my post at 0959 for a possible way into Woodelf's site, Jno. Alternatively, try pasting the link to his site into here to see if you can bypass your ISP's over-aggressive DNS server:
https:/ /www.hi demyass .com/en -gb/pro xy
(If you can get in that way, the top of the site is initially partly-covered by a banner. However there's a 'Hide' button on the left of that banner, which will get rid of it for you).
Thanks for the Grauniad quiz. I matched your score of 12 on it. Merry Christmas!
