Canceling A Redirection Of Mail You Didn't Give Permission For

Does anyone know if for example an adult child has the right to redirect mail belonging to a deceased parent to their own address despite the existing spouse (and also parent of said adult child) still living in same home and not giving permission for this. I am under impression any power of attorney that may have existed ceases when a person dies. Also they would not be able to claim to be inheritor to proceeds of will if the will not finalised as yet and in dispute. Just wondering why post office have granted this and what rights the existing spouse has in this case to try canceling it. (Seems like only person who organised and paid for the redirection of mail can cancel it.) Trying to help a friend but difficult to get information on this.

The 'inheritor' of a will is irrelevant here. It's the executor of that will who is responsible for sorting out the estate of the deceased person and who therefore (quite reasonably it would seem to me) has the right to receive correspondence addressed to the deceased person. (For example, they'll need to know about any bills, or other demands for payment, that have been sent to the deceased person).

So who is named as the executor (or joint executor) of the will?

If the redirection was made on the basis of having Power of Attorney and the other required evidence was provided, Royal Mail would not have known the person had died unless the attorney had telt them.

Ahh that might be the theory they have used in order to put it into place. Thanks Buen knew you would have explanation that made sense. Except we think perhaps it may in fact be all mail being redirected and also mail belonging to other family member with same initial who is having mail sent there temporarily. Bit of a mess and causing problems. But your help much appreciated.
