Is this bloke Jeremy Vine off his trolly. Just switched on tv to see the news and it happened to be tuned into his crap. The debate is going to be about ( should fish and chip shops be forced to sell fruit and veg)  what a load of poppycock.

We get what we deserve on the telly

Question Author

Its on c5 now its a joke to watch.

Question Author

Thanks TTT. didnt know. What i do know is chippies are closing quicker than pubs. They would just end up dumping the fruit and veg in the bin every week ie another loss.

If crap results in good viewing figures, then crap you get. Fact of TV life.

If fish and chip shops are forced by petty bureaucracy to sell fruit and vegetables it won't be a joke for business owners - or for customers who will necessarily meet with higher prices to cover unsold, perishable  food.

They do have fruit and veg anyway:

Pea Fritter

Pineapple Fritter

I've seen sweet corn fritters!

Lemon is fruit. Chips are vegetables

A slice of lemon with your fish supper?  That's posh.

Question Author

Well the debate ended with deep fried peas. :0)

Question Author

The problem being no one on these health boards who come up with these ideas have no clue to running any business or how to make a profit.

I love mushy peas so would welcome them at any Chippy.

Not to mention tartare sauce with its gherkins, capers, parsley, and tarragon.

If you'd switched it on a bit earlier you'd have watched a very fiery and important debate about the Israel situation. It needed something light hearted. The progranmme covers all sorts of topics and the fish n chip one was not only in the news it was also discussed on here.

So I assume greengrocers will start offerring cod and chips then! PMSL!

Perhaps a more interesting debate might be Is it right that a shop is forced to sell anything they don't normally?

Big brother is on the move.

Question Author

Prudie 10.39 Well excuse me prudie for missing the debate/ discussion on AB. And excuse me also for missing the debate on Israel, but concidering Israel is being rammed down our necks 24/7 by ALL channels I really dont think I've missed much on that topic. Regarding light hearted debate, theres nothing light hearted about forcing private businesses to sell items they don't want too. I thought we had left the EU? Have a nice day!

Why are you blaming Jeremy Vine? It's not his idea...its a newsworthy item that should be discussed. Now go and untie your knickers πŸ˜‚

Lets not forget the big pickled Onion and egg jar😊

nicebloke, //Regarding light hearted debate, theres nothing light hearted about forcing private businesses to sell items they don't want too. //

Crikey!  There's a swift change of heart.  You said in your OP that the debate was crap and poppycock.

Question Author

Hence the whole idea of forcing retailers, is crap and poppycock. Forcing retailers is not light hearted.
