er bob a post may be well down the Most Recent Posts list but of course it will go to the top of the Most Recently Answered pile when it's in use. But actually that's a good idea, and Biddies are doing it already, with AB Ed's approval, so it ought to work for others. A technical problem is that a thread starts to get wobbly after 500 posts or so, so you'd have to start a new one fairly frequently. Also best to try to keep it clean so Ed doesn't feel she has to monitor it 24/7.

jno...that's not the case re the big 500. There's a thread lurking that's been over 800 2 or 3 times (tho some answers have been temp. removed due to overposting and so the total has fluctuated).

hi kick... well, the 500 business was communicated by AB Ed to the biddies - I didn't mean that when you hit 501 the system crashes, but apparently it does start to affect things, so they prefer 500 to be seen as the time to think about moving somewhere new. The original biddies thread went on for nearly 2000 but by the end they were having to import hundreds of Polish plumbers to keep it afloat.

Yesd cos of a long Biddy thread, I could not access "Threads I'm involved in" until Ed sorted it (and of course the Technies) so we now have to keep the thread to 500 approx. From a Biddy x

Good idea! Maybe people would be less upset if chat was kept in one or two threads as opposed to many? That would definitely eliminate the argument that legitimate threads were being pushed off the page.
