Myspace background woes

I have a drawing I would like to have as a single, fixed background motif. I have uploaded it to photobucket, and followed several different html codes but I keep getting the same problem: I can see that the image is there, but it only appears in the left hand margin - the rest of the page is white i.e. all my information is contained in a white table which is sitting on top of my picture. Annoying. Basically I suppose I want to know how to get rid of this white area or make it transparent. If you're still reading this, well done and if you want to reply, pretty please keep it simple for the computer dunce here!
