Special section for Carers etc
54 Answers
This is in response to an idea from paulineward, which I think is excellent.
If there was a special section for carers and people who know carers, ideas and information could be passed on, tp the mutual benefit of all, and without cluttering up the other sections.
What do you all think?,
And what does our Editor think.

While we were posting on your thread, I just thought what a wealth of experience and knowledge we all may have to share with each other. We could make suggestions if we have experienced similar problems, and we could be a support for each other to sound off now and again!! ..and don't we need to! We can all care for each other!
First, whitefang, your entitled to your opinion, Social Workers, Childminders, Nurses, Doctors, they would all have a wealth of experience they could share, they wouldn't bw excluded, but welcomed.
Thanks everyone for your support on this, it would be nice if the Editor takes note.
Pauline, the credit is yours, your idea, I just put it up, lets hope even more A/Bers contribute to this thread, even if it is in the negative.

Thanks Lonnie.
I agree, we would welcome contributions from professionals. They could advise and support also.
Thay could also put their points across.
The section would enable people to ask things, perhaps they couldn't in meetings etc. Sometimes you forget, or feel intimidated.
Also, a point to bear in mind is that professionals have fellow workers and supervisors for support. Many carers are, or feel isolated. We could help with that.

Hi,
Just saw your post in Parenting section & I think it would be a great idea. I am not a carer myself but I think it would be eexcellent for people to have a place to go for the moral support/assistance/etc that they need - as many are as many are at home for the majority of the day so an online Q&A would be perfect.
As you have already said, professionals and non-professionals alike would be welcome to join in and share there experiences and hints/tips etc.
Good luck
A xXx

Lonnie, thanks so much for making this suggestion. I am a carer for my nearly 90 year old mother and am myself disabled, which makes things rather difficult at times. I think there are many who would love a carer's section. There may even be some young carers out there who could use a bit of support from us all.
So, please dear AB ED, can we have one?

I've already commented on this but I do think the whole concept is a very good one. There are many people caring for relatives that may need somewhere to ask a question - it might seem a silly one to some who read it so I really hope it is not ridiculed like many are on B & S as any question would be (to the poster) all important.
There could be links to appropriate organisations/help sites to do with the disability on question. Updates on what help/time off a cerer could get and also (importantly) what could be a lifeline to a carer whose nursing of a person is having a profound impact on their lives - every which way - because a carers life is a particularly hard one and they need all the help/advice/back up we could give them.

Thanks paulineward, I am one of the lucky carers who, by my own choice, looks after a delightful, intelligent Mum who sadly isn't very mobile anymore. Many are not so lucky and are faced with relatives that are mentally and physically very difficult to deal with. Carers come from all walks of life and from all professions, often having had to give up on these professions to look after a relative needing care, love and attention.
So whitefang, I feel your comment is a bit misplaced, to say the least! You are obviously judging something you know little or nothing about. All that you mentioned are in fact carers of some sort, so would fit into this category well, as would those who require carers. As for Tom, Dick and Harry, well that makes your comment a touch flippant.
We should all have great respect for carers, whether professional or not, as they are much needed and often do this work without any renumeration just out of love and the spirit of caring. Another thought whitefang ... be nice to us ... you may need a carer yourself some day ... !

I think it really is a great idea, whitefang, what are you banging on about, Doctors ,Nurses, Childminders, aren't they all carers?? Cmon man wake up.
I think it would be a very popular category indeed, I for one would be happy to give my two penneth and receive advice as well, to a small degree I am a carer myself.
Come on Ed, you know you want to ;-)
