Birthday Greetings Category?
29 Answers
Morning Ed - As dear Dot is a popular member of AB, I have posted birthday greetings to her/him (?) on four different threads & in different categories.
Also posted the same for someone elses birthday on a different thread.
Maybe it's time for a dedicated 'Birthday Greetings' category?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It is a long asked for idea smudge, there are many ways it could work too, either as an automated list related to the membership, or as a section where posts can be added. I do know that though most people use an alias on here, usually just because they feel that is a comfortable and safe thing to do, we still know who they are and posting a thread for them whatever thier real name should be fine. I know it has been suggested over and over again. Though sometimes we should be careful what we wish for, look at the subs for instance lol
Oh was that a counter opnion quizzling? It looked more like you had chucked your dummy out of the pram, how much of your cyber space did they take up then? Just point me in the direction of the threads you were not able to post because of them. Come on hurry up, I am dying to see what important issues you needed answers to that you felt you couldn't find room for on here.
Dot, although quizling's response was a little blunt, I do have to agree that as long as this is a Question / Answer site, then in my opinion (and the opinion of a lot of others in the past, including the editorial team) it should not be used for blatant chat etc....
There are plenty of other ways of chatting with the people you are friendly with. Try MSN messenger, Yahoo Messenger or ICQ for instance. You can have group discussions with these and they are all free to use. You can use Avatars you get notifications when your friends are online and can easily share photos / files with them.

Kerplunk - as I've just posted on another thread, AB or Suggestions isn't a place for 'small talk', that's why I & others have contacted the Ed requesting a category specifically for 'Greetings'.
Some of us like to wish others, either a Happy Birthday - Happy Easter - Happy Christmas (or whatever the PC brigade wish to call it these days), etc.
We don't wish to post greetings all over AB, just the facility to do so in ONE place - that's all.

Sad eh Neti - some people get stressed out over the most simplest things in life don't they?
We've had kids knocking on the door for trick or treats & although I don't agree with this Americanism thingy, I smiled sweetly & gave them a tangerine each - job done, everyone happy! (Mind you I'll be back in Sainsbury's again tomorrow stocking up)!

Although we privately celebrated Halloween at an American school in which I worked in the 70's, it hasn't really caught on here, as they really respect the dead. Some of the big discos now have a themed halloween night, but most of Spain will reverently be at the graves tomorrow lighting candles and being pious and respectful. As it's so busy, I do this at other times. (Guess where my 20yr old daughter will be tonight???)
Yes, they go on about not wanting another chatterbank, but that is exactly what this category is turning into and any future "Greetings" category will inevitably turn into.
Smudge, can I ask you this? Do you think the trouble causes from chatterbank will just stay away from any new category about greetings or similar? Surely it will just be hijacked by the same users as chatterbank was or at least by different users with the same mentality.
