I'm having a party on Saturday, and I would like suggestion on suitable homecooked food.

I'd like the food to be mainly vegetarian, (but not exclusively vegetarian), and I'm going to be on a budget. Food wise, I'm having two separate parts. I'm going to have a three course meal for those who arrive early I've decided that the starter will be vegetable soup/broth, because I can serve a lot of people with it and it costs next to nothing to buy the vegetables. However I'm not sure what to have for a main course and for pudding.
Also, I will need to have proper ''party'' or ''finger'' food for those who arrive too late for the meal. I would like everything to be homecooked for reasons of finance, and also because the last party went to had homecooked party food and it tasted so much better than store bought party food! The more suggestions the better, and the more outlandish and surprising the suggestion, the better! (Also if you could include recipies cooking instructions I would be grateful as I'm not a natural cook. Thankyou.

A salsa dip you could do in advance....
Lots of fresh crushed garlic
Chopped cherry tomatos
Chopped onions
Chopped jar of jalapenos
Jar of passata
Big bunch of fresh chopped Coriander
salt and pepper
Leave in a big bowl overnight in the fridge and serve with tortilla crisps
Do you have a crock pot? you could do a big crock pot of BBQ beans to serve with crusty fresh bread....

I would do huge pot of veggie chilli which you can serve hot as your main course then the remaninder as a dip with nachos or french bread for late comers, also tuna/veg pasta bake, jacket tatties wrapped in foil keep hot for ages and i would rig up a food warmer if you don't have one - suspend a large serving dish above tea light candles to keep tattes and chilli etc warm so people can dib in all night.
Puddings i would make individual lemon meringue pies simply becasue they are divine and a big sherry trifle since its a party
