ABE's Blog and profanity
11 Answers
You have said that the use of profane language or symbols replacing letters in a profanity will lead to the post being banned.
I am not clear if the banning will be automatic or will still need three folk to report it.
If it is not the former, may I suggest that you tweak the censor (ooh er missus!) so that the post is either banned automatically or a warning is produced asking the poster to amend it before it will be allowed to appear?

There was an innocent post about a voluntary organisation called "coastwtch".
This got ***'d out, and the following posts by explanation, highlighted an offensive word amidst a wholly innocent one.
This happens frequently with threads that mention the term for the male of the bird species, titles of television pop-music quizzes, inventors of rotary engines, etc etc.
Surely if we are to employ greater self-moderation in our answers, then, AB, for their part, should dust off the instruction manual for the "auto-censor", take it off the factory setting that it's been on for the last 2 years, and finally attempt to customise its dictionary, so that these "compound usages" do not get censored?

Is the new Ed british or American? It can make a difference. I was on an American chat forum and when asked what I was doing honestly replied that I was sitting drinking coffee thinking about rolling a fag. I got banned. I found out later that rolling a fag over in the UK has an entirely different meaning to rolling a fag in the USA. I don't feel the need to swear (I mean use/type real swear words) if I want to say c--k up or b---s up about something then I do and I think a lot of ABers here use much the same vocabulary as its a part of the English language and in consequence they get their post deleted or themselves banned? I mean - eh, wot???? Who decides what is actually a profanity? I agree that a poster should receive a warning to change or reword a post of theirs and not find it deleted/amended/banned/removed/ without prior warning.
