Hi all. I hope I'm not displaying my ignorance here but I'm hoping to address it !! Where can I find a book encompassing the whole history of the world ? ( post caveman preferably ) I like to watch history programmes and learn about different empires/civilisations/ marauding armies that conquered vast areas, but is there a book which says something like............ In 500 BC these people invaded there, got kicked out by these people, who ruled for 1000 years, then they died off and along came this new religion and changed it and everyone was happy until the next empire came and there was war and famine and the country next door said no thanks we'll go our own way and start our own religion !!!!! Very long winded I know, but I'm about to work overseas for 6 months and could do with an in depth, knowledgeable read about the world we live in. Thank you in hope.
it really depends how long you want it to be, and these can be as long as a very long piece of string. This one's over 1200 pages but it's pretty good, if you have time to read at that length
Possibly, the book you seek is:
'A Short History of the World' by H.G.Wells.
Compactly written, easily read (I've read it twice),
and it's all you require. It takes you to the 1930s.
and no further. Recommended ++.
