With what you are asking is just too big a subject to cover here

there is plenty of info out there .... but linux isn't like windows ... it requires a certain level of knowledge

if you can't install it ... you won't be able to use the software either

google Knoppix ... this is a distro that runs directly from a CD
easiest way ... use a windows XP or Vista machine to run Virtual PC 2007 (a free prog)

download Knoppix and mount the ISO in a Virtual machine
then practice.

when you have some experience ... load up a VPC with SUSE - and learn to fly
gone are the days of needing a phd to install an OS. whack the disc in the machine and boot from it. from there it will ask you questions and you answer them. what hard drive would you like to install to, what size partition, what file system, what monitor resolution, what time zone etc. try it once, maybe screw it up a bit, but then try again.

you will probably have problems with the adsl modem though, depending on the make and your isp. if it isnt specifically linux compatible then you have to manually hack it in. maybe someone has made linux drivers already for it that you can use but still its not as easy as copy/paste.

apart from that though, pretty easy
