This is another good site. If you have a particular question you can go onto the message board and try your luck there. I've come up trumps a few times there. Actually got in touch with relatives I didn't know I had.
Good luck.

This site will allow you to search for wills and other useful documents.
You would also do well to find the nearest Family History Society to where youre looking. I have found them very useful indeed. They keep all sorts of records including census records and often gravestone inscriptions.
One other tip I would suggest is just to look for info on your search engine. I looked for census records Dumfries (my area) and found that the library there had put online the entire 1851 census records for the Dumfries and Galloway area. I also found some gravestone inscriptions and loads of other info.
Pity you werent looking in Scotland because you can log on to the General Records Office in Edinburgh and for a very reasonable fee you can download digital images of the actual records (B, M, D, Parish Record and Census records) The English equivalent is http://www.pro.gov.uk/online/default.htm Ive never used this site but I dont believe its as comprehensive as the Scottish site. But give them time they may well catch up.
I hope this has been of help. Sorry I don't know enough about the other countries to be of much help there.
