..now that I've just about managed to get on it (not earlier on today though) - but with having the facility to send personal messages, don't you think AB might've kicked itself in the foot? Don't you think many people'll now just message those on their friends list - for a natter - so less questions'll be posted on the site?

That will be brilliant if the site returns to how it is meant to be - genuine questions that have proper answers, rather than inane and pointless chatter.

Let those who want to talk about nothing with strangers do it in private.
I don't agree Fay. Chatterbank is just a small section in the site. There are plenty other topics you can visit for the genuine questions and answers.

If anything i think chatterbank keeps the "inane and pointless chatter" (your words not mine) away from other topics. For some people AB may be the only communication that they have with folk, all day, so it's only natural they'll want to have a natter.
The question related to AnswerBank as a whole, not chatterbank specifically.

Chatterbank may well be affected by the new messaging system, but that's no big loss to the site as a whole.

I think it is a real shame that genuine posters have been put off by the interpersonal disputes and real nastiness that has been prevalent on this site, as well as the 'flirting' and drunken ramblings.
Yes Ethel i am quite aware of that, but i was simply pointing out that most of the chit chat takes place in chatterbank. I thought that was it's purpose. I was saying that if Fay finds all the chatter pointless, then there are other topics to choose from.
I see a danger that PM will be used for answers, thereby eroding the site's resource.....

Re banal chattering: -
I agree with the sentiments of Fay Mousse ....

Chatterbank returned recently + now there is this 'Friends List personal messaging' ...... Good, IF it stops banal chattering

Let us hope that AB will now make a real effort to stop the chatter that is a feature of Quizzes and Puzzles .... some examples from the past week -

I agree with both Ethel & Louisa! Live and let live, although some of the arguments might've put a few people off.
