lost desktop background

tried everything i know of to restore my desktop background,,the desktop back ground has turned all white, with blue strip down the left side,, with the file and folder task, other places, and details.. when I turn on the google side bar, I can see the background I have set on appearances and themes,, seems like the white page is on top of the background that I have chosen.. I can not figure this one out.....on windows xp home.... appreciate any advise-------- shellman38

Hold down Ctrl+Alt and hit Delete
Choose Task Manager
Go to the Applications page
Highlight each application in turn (There's probably only one)
Choose End Task

rojash,, thanks for answering my question(about lost desktop) but I cant get to the task manager.. box says it has been disabled by administator.. guess you can tell by now I am not a computer expert by a long way.... if you have the patience, would appreciate your input.... thanks,,, shellman38
