Leave a book behind to be read by others
5 Answers
Does anyone know where I can find out more about this. Some small publisher friends of mine are fighting a losing battle trying to get their books read. They don't have the big bucks to pay for publicity, and no one will review them because they are to small to bother with. A shame, because readers really love the books.
I heard or read somewhere that readers were being encouraged to read a book, review it, and then leave it behind for another reader. Apparently some books are fetching up in the weirdest places. Does anyone know the details of how this works. Thanks everyone. bizzylizzy

I guess it is a mild form of guerilla advertising. Have they tried something alternative like leaving copies in libraries and in book stores (just slipped onto the shelf) or perhps donating a copy to each local school? Getting people tlking about a book is the first step to getting a reviewer to notice it and review it to see what the fuss is about.
I think the scheme you're referring to is this one: http://www.bookcrossing.com
Your thinking of Book Crossing http://www.bookcrossings.com
I can't see how giving away their books for free will help.
I found a book crossing book when I was travelling in New Zealand. It was just lying on a bench at the side of the road. I enjoyed it, interesting to read something I wouldn't normally, and I took it to Oz with me and left it on a bench on the beach. Then you can review it and see what others thought of it. Nice idea on so many levels.
