second time lucky!newts in the spring.

hello again, i have a question. recently i have noticed we have newts in our pond. This is a first for me (and the pond according my landlord) and i do not know what type they are. The one i have seen is pale yellow with a brownish pattern down its back.
I'm only asking as i need to clean the pond out a bit, the spring head is getting a little choked with weed (its a gravity fed natural spring pool) and i am not certain what i can do until they are identified as i do not want to disturb there habitat if they are protected in any way.

Don't clear the pond until autumn ..
as they will live off the stuff in it ..
our pond is alive with tadpoles ...
more frogs the better as the eat the slugs ..
nature is a never ending cycle ...
