House auction (hows it done)

How do you go about auctioning your house ,do you have to do it via an agency ?( hows it done) .Need a bit of advice for my son .Like many others at the moment he needs a quick sale preferably without a chain .

Good site but a couple of extra points.
It isn't going to get a house sold in a few days. Auctions have to be advertised, people need time to look, undertake their searches etc, all of which is at the buyers risk when the hammer falls. So allow say 6 weeks minimum before the auction - 4 weeks after - assuming it is sold.
It does provide some level of certainty for the seller - assuming it reaches a reserve price (if one is set).
The selling costs are higher than selling through a straight agent.
