Animals and rose tinted glasses

I have seen a post today, and heard often, that is offensive to call badly behaved people 'animals' as animals don't behave like that.
Why do some people view animals in this way when nature documentaries show animals killing and eating their own young and a quick google will show a pig eating its own piglet; a chimp maiming and killing a baby chimp and discussions as to why a dog has eaten one of her pups?
I blame Walt Disney for anthropomorphising animals and making them cutesy.

Ethel in reply - is was my response to that thread that mentioned these people to be animals, and I said so as there are no other thoughts (or to be honest) that come into my mind that give the strength of calling our own - human beings - animals. Being an absolute animal lover myself, I don't actually mean I am undermining animals, but trying to convey the undermining of these monsters rather bacuse words failed me to a point where I thought this wa sthe strongest thing I could say. It isn't actually the strongest thing, but on here I guess we have to settle for more diplomatic ways in which to describe these "people"
