Why can't we have a Chatroom on AB

Can't we have a proper chatroom on here in addition to the Chatterbank category?

It would make much more sense for some of these topics to be dealt with in that more disposable way, rather than have megabytes of stored threads of no real content.

Just my opinion.

But then some users would have to fill up their own hard drives with screen shots of threads they want to keep dragging up months down the line!
"no real content"?

how very dare you!

So you would classify a thread of 40 answers of which 35 boil down to "... it's goodnight from me, and it's goodnight from them" as real content??

You are so easily pleased.

:-)
we're discussing giving blood right now.

feel free to give your opinion, if you feel we are worthy ;o)
I`ve never seen the 2 Ronnies on here

Giving blood is a great thread - and I speak as a 28 pinter, who only stopped because of medication I was having to take.

But a lot of the chat here is just that - trivial chat, that's all I'm saying. Nothing wrong with a bit of a natter, but most of it's hardly worth preserving for posterity.
well that's just part of the entertainment! you just have to take most of it with a large pinch of salt ;o)

we're mostly friendly, really!
then that is the fault of the site technicians not the fault of us who contribute to the site, therefore put this suggestion in the suggestions category but add a note that lets us know that you bare not directly criticising us for being trivial.
Wait til the grief in the reef mob get on here, you`ll soon fook off back to Ebay
sorry *are, we went for a year or more without a chatterbank and body and soul was cluttered with chat, the site can obviously stand the megabytes, in what way does it affect your use of the site anyway?

it would just take care of the trivia more quickly without the constant need to refresh the page, while leaving the threads open for such first class discussions as donating blood. Everyone would benefit, I think.
by rights , that thread should really be in body and soul, but chats about what people have done today are for CB and would not be welcome elsewhere, i am struggling to separate your argument for technology to delete the threads in Cb after posting to save space, and the triviality of the thread content, could you just clarify that you are not saying we talk rubbish?
plus, if it is any of my threads that you feel are particularly not worth preserving i shall email the ed and ask him to delete them in the morning as i would hate to be made to think i am wasting peoples time and cluttering up the world wide web
I am curious as to what in the word "Chatterbank" you don't understand?
The word contains in itself word CHAT.
In Chatterbank anything can be talked about, from the profound to the trivial.
It is as near to being AB's "safety valve" as it is possible to get.
It is intended to allow ABer's to post threads here that would not right or maybe not suitable elsewhere.
It's meant to be lighthearted, and if it gets all serious occasionally then that's just the nature of CB.
We had enough trouble getting CB back, asking for a "proper" chatroom would be like grasping at the moon.
And...we don`t need a chatroom, that`s what MSN is for and if anyone feels like a chat feel free to msn me

[email protected]
yeah or msn me at [email protected]
ooo and me.... [email protected]
Why can't we have a Chatroom on AB?

Because certain people would spam it with their usual nonsense.

you seem to be taking all this very personally. At no point have I used the word "rubbish", although others who are more brave than I might be tempted to do so about some of the less weighty content which I have referred to as "trivia" - which is what it is, and there's nothing wrong with a bit of social trivia.

Allow me to simplify the point: chatrooms are quicker and more convenient. Storage is not a huge consideration. It's a personal thing: why keep and store stuff for no real long term purpose?

So many people seem to take things personally on here, I'm beginning to wish I hadn't said anything now. All I was trying to do was to raise a general point.

Incidentally, I was unaware that this is a feature that was once removed and has been reinstated.
