I have just checked my profile to find one of my answers was banned.  How can I find out what one it was and why it was banned?

You can be banned for supplying an answer that broke the AB rules or was part of a thread that broke the AB rules. Interestingly, they may have banned a question that was too obscure or was unlikely to have been answered. See bernado's thread about changing the term "banned" to "deleted" (which carries less shame). If you trawl through your answered questions via the "My details" route you may see the banned questions/answers
