Duplicate User Accounts

I have noticed that some users seem to be quite proud to have duplicate user accounts on this site. However, my reading of the site rules was that they were not allowed, so how come you permit this to happen ?

Here is an example from someone who believes they are a god,
"sorry stokie yep so ive registered a few names the test will be+if i post in loadsa threads seee if im banned or not"

Or are the rules for some users and not others ?

It happens because it can't be stopped. To register a new name, a user simply needs to register another email address. Most people around here have several email addresses (usually for perfectly legitimate purposes) so that's not going to be a barrier.

The only way that AB's server can identify users is by their IP address. Very few people have 'static' IP addresses. Nearly everyone has a 'dynamic' IP address. That means that they're given a different IP address every time they connect to the internet. So, if I wanted to create a new username here, I'd simply go to GMail or Gawab, to get a new email account. Then I'd disconnect from the internet and reconnect. I could then sign up again. AB's server would see a new email address and a different IP address, so there would be no reason for it to refuse registration.

hey its a jungle on here and as long as duplicate names arent used to con trick or hide and abuse folk i dont see a problem.

The Ed allows two of the most prolific users to have more than one account as they have no life outside of this forum and they tend to "overpost" or have themselves reported due to their abusive posts quite often.

They used to phone the Ed in distress when their usernames were zapped and so he/she lets them have "backup" usernames which saves the Ed from receiving phonecalls from a sobbing gibbering deluded expat Scot who likes to dress up as Zorro and his plastic sword wielding monkey.

They always use much the same usernames simply adding a fullstop or a number so it is easy to spot them and of course to avoid them which is the important thing!
