This is only my second letter so I hope you'll forgive my cheek in suggesting something.

Following on from my first letter, do you think it might be a good idea to have good reliable free software recommended? Whether that could include shareware and paid-for variations I'll leave to those more experienced in the field.

I think far from spreading malevolent thingies all over the place, the contributor would thoroughly check for these and for the validity of the program if only to maintain any credibility.

Lots of people, including myself, do recommend software
Yes, hello Chuck. I suppose people do, but if there was one place people could go to see if any software on offer would be suitable for their purposes, it might be better.

To benefit from your or anyone else's generosity, people would have to be at the right place at the right time.
hi lizziebet, do you have a link to your first letter? Was it in suggestions?

Thank you Mrs.Sippy. Great minds think alike.

And dot, I'm afraid I don't know how to give you a link, but it was in the computers category.
Pretty much everything the average user could need is here

And you're sure everyone on here knows about it then do you hilly?

There's more than enough free stuff around, if you know where to look. What I'm suggesting is a place that everyone knows about and where questions could be asked of the provider if necessary.
I was just trying to be helpful lizziebet . I think that this is adequately covered already . If somebody needs something , such as free anti-virus software people such as Chuck , myself or others are always willing to help if we can .

Oh hilly, I wasn't being nasty, or at least I didn't mean to be. That's the trouble with the printed word - you can't go the intonation, see the half smile on the face. I certainly didn't want to appear rude and I'm so sorry if you thought I was. Rudeness and hostility are two of my most hated qualities, so I'm concerned that anyone should me guilty of either of them.
it's OK lilliebet not a problem :-)
^^ lizziebet sorry

I'm REALLY sorry hilly. My remarks being said quite innocently doesn't repair the offence you must've felt when you first read them. There have been times in my life when I have caused offence, by an ill-thought-out remark or a misunderstanding of what was said, but they too were innocent, but I can remember each and every one, even the one over 25 years ago. I dread to think of the times I wasn't aware of it.
ask for software recommendations under Technology/computers & you'll get all you want. Any misleading answers are soon qualified by others.
